This program is a subdivision of Step-by-Step Wellness LLC. It is uniquely designed to prevent falls within our adult and senior population. It is a two-part comprehensive program. It is explained in detail below.
To prevent falls associated with weakness, poor balance, and decreased functional mobility. Many individuals have been robbed of the enjoyment of health and wellness due to falls. According to the CDC, 2024, “falls among adults 65 and older caused over 38,000 deaths in 2021, making it the leading cause of injury death for that group.”
Many individuals of this population have been victims of broken hips and head traumas that gradually take away their independence. Each year there are about 300,000 hip fracture-related hospitalizations due to older adults fall (Journal of Aging and Health, 2023). These falls are preventable and the time to address them is now.
The first part includes a comprehensive home evaluation to identify the risk factors that have the potential to lead to falls and make recommendations to prevent them. According to Moreland, B, Kakara, R, & Henry, A. 2020, these risk factors include weakness, difficulty in walking, balance deficits, medication side effects, orthostatic hypotension, vision problems, foot pain or poor footwear, and home hazards.
Evaluations will be conducted by an Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) and a Clinical Pharmacist. James Sony Germain is an experienced licensed and registered Occupational Therapist in the State of Florida, a Certified Fall Prevention Specialist, a Certified Personal Trainer, and a Certified Health Coach. Marsha J. Daniel is an experienced Clinical Pharmacist in the State of Florida, a Certified Diabetes Care Education Specialist, and a Certified Functional Nutrition Coach. They are both passionate about preventing falls within this population.
Early detection is key in preventing falls within our adult and senior population. These risk factors can be identified by completing fall screens regularly. The earlier they are detected, the earlier they can be addressed.
This part includes a weekly group exercise program. Members of all backgrounds will participate in enjoyable physical activities such as resistance and strengthening exercises to increase their strength, balance, mobility, and social participation. Individuals should participate in muscle-strengthening activities of at least moderate intensity, involving all major muscle groups, on two or more days per week (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2018).” Exercises will be uniquely designed according to each member’s capabilities and goals. Sessions will be led by a Certified Personal Trainer.
Each member will complete a physical activity questionnaire to establish a baseline. Medical clearance will be obtained for members with current and/or history of cardiac and other chronic health conditions.

officers, agents, employees, organizers, representatives, and successors from any
responsibility, liabilities, demands, or claims of any kind arising out of my participation in the Step by Step Wellness LLC training, programs and/or events.
